Bok-Fu-Do, the system of the white tiger, was developed by Grandmaster Richard Lee with roots in Chinese martial arts.
Throughout the decades, Bok-Fu-Do has consistently proven its effectiveness at the highest level of competition for martial arts, the World Kuoshu (Kung-Fu) Tournaments. Much like the Olympics, the World Kuoshu Tournaments occur only once every three to four years. Bok-Fu-Do students of Grandmaster Lee have represented the United States in these World Competitions nine different times spanning more than thirty years to date. Most recently, the 2012 World Tournament in Malaysia watched the United States turn in their best performance ever as a team. Anchored by eight of Grandmaster Lee’s students – over half the entire American squad – and headed by U.S. coach, Master John Buckley, the United States beat out host country and defended the World Title the US Team captured in Germany (2009).
The “Do” in the words “Bok-Fu-Do” was officially added in 1994 when Lee became a Grandmaster and Bok-Fu-Do was recognized internationally as a system of Chinese martial arts. Grandmaster Lee has taught thousands of students dating back to the 1960’s. In his early years he developed black belts that have gone on to open their own schools and teach Bok-Fu and/or Bok-Fu-Kenpo. But there are only five schools presently teaching Bok-Fu-Do – The West Coast Headquarters, East-West Kung-Fu in Alamo, San Ramon and Lafayette, CA (Head of School – Master John Buckley, 1st disciple of Grandmaster Richard Lee). His affiliate school, K.O. Kung-Fu is in San Jose, CA (Head of School – Master John Ozuna, 2nd disciple of Grandmaster Richard Lee) and Nunez Martial Arts Academy in Roseville, CA.

Kids
Ages 5 - 12 Our kids program is a challenging but fun class that not only develops their martial arts skill, but also reinforces the value of respect and hard work that is taught by parents at home. We stress to our students when it is acceptable use their martial arts for self defense. Before beginning our first lesson, our students make a promise: they will never misuse the martial art that we teach. They promise to only use force if someone is physically trying to harm them, and they can see no other way to avoid a fight. NMAA Beginners classes are designed to teach the basics of our system such as kicks, punches, self defense techniques, and kata. Our Intermediate and Advanced classes are more rigorous than the previous series of classes. We offer more emphasis on technique and form. Sparring is also added to the class curriculum, so our students may learn to perfect their timing, precision, control. While we want your child to learn to defend, we also like to keep the energy of our classes fun and engaging, so that everyone enjoys their classes. Teen & Adult
In addition to learning practical self defense techniques, our Adult classes are great for getting exercise. Most adults want a great workout, but are also looking to do something different than the option of a typical gym membership. Martial arts is a fantastic way to increase muscle tone, endurance, flexibility, and overall health. Typical adults classes include learning, or reviewing, self defense techniques, and practicing kicks and hand strikes from our Bok Fu Do system. |
"You have to simply realize that you are the creator of your own fears. Things will always turn out to be less difficult than you feared they would be. See yourself as a winner and a winner you shall be. Have confidence in your abilities to be a winner. Don't let your mind become loose and let yourself even for a moment think of failure.”
